Maggie Grace Pictures: Celebrating LOST's Past and Future

Maggie Grace PicturesMaggie Grace PicturesMaggie Grace PicturesMaggie Grace PicturesMaggie Grace PicturesMaggie Grace Pictures

*WARNING: MILD SPOILERS*

ABC's LOST Series 4 premiered last night with a large crash - literally! Starting off with a high speed Los Angeles car chase, it was immediately clear that two things were going on: LOST was back and Season 4 was gonna change things.

The premiere was intense, lots of cool moments particularly involving Hurley and Jack. If you missed it or have always wanted to get into Lost, now is the time. We reached the top of the hill last year and with 3 shorter seasons left with 16 episodes each, we're on a fast track to the end.

No more dragging out the plot lines, it's time for the answers.

To celebrate Lost's past and future I decided to post these hot pics of Maggie Grace who was Shannon on Lost for season's 1 and 2.

Celebrity Skinned's Top 5 Films of 2007

Both Marti and myself have choosen our Top 5 films of 2007 and since there's really no reason to build up to these lists here they are:

Marti's List:

1. The Bourne Ultimatum:
THE Intelligent action movie of the decade. We know this is the last Bourne outing, but let's hope we can see more action movies like this for the next decade.

2. American Gangster:
THE intelligent gangster movie, a towering performance by Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe.

3. I Am Legend:
Thank God that the film is faithful to the end of the now endless productions of Richard Matheson's classic.

4. Sunshine:
Trainspotting and 28 Days Later director Boyle's moody Sci Fi wasn't a huge hit, but this is space opera at its best.

5. The Simpsons Movie:
Finally!!

The Captain's List: not really in order

1. Into the Wild:
This movie still haunts me. I'm not sure why but I really connected to this film and I loved Penn's execution of it. Chris wrote 'Happiness only real when shared', a lesson learned at such a cost.

2. Zodiac - The Director's Cut:
Another haunting film based on real events. Fincher captures the brutality, the obsession, the bewilderment that surrounded the Zodiac Killer and his victims. 1970's San Francisco comes to life around the downward spiral that is the life of those involved in finding the killer's true identity.

3. 300:
Gratuitous, over-stylized and just 300 tons of awesome. This movie entertains on a level that many just fail to reach. Lack of character development? Lack of plot? Who gives a shit... this is what movie theaters and HD TV's were made for.

4. Hot Fuzz:
A worthy and completely satisfying follow up to Shaun of the Dead. Simon Pegg and crew are just hilarious.

5. There Will Be Blood:
The title is not lying. There was literal blood, there was metaphorical blood, the black blood of the earth and there was Daniel Day Lewis. He deserves his best actor nod and Golden Globe win hands down.

Gillian Anderson Pictures from the Set of X-Files 2

X-Files 2: Mulder and ScullyX-Files 2: Mulder and ScullyX-Files 2: Mulder and Scully

Well now I really believe it. They are actually making a sequel to the X-Files film. It had been rumored and hinted at for SO long I just stopped having any faith and refused to believe the new rumors until pics from the set surfaced and here they are. Gillian Anderson looks great, David Duchovny looks typically unemotional and I really can't wait to the film.

Anyone wanna start guessing what the title's going to be?

Looks like Xzibit and Amanda Peet are on broad for this installment and I'm hearing that *SPOILERS*werewolves are involved*END SPOILERS*.

Rhona Mitra Starring in Niel Marshal's Apocalypse

Boston Legal's beautiful Rhona Mitra is starring in Neil Marshall's new upcoming film Doomsday. Neil Marshall brought us Dog Soldiers(which I haven't seen) and the ultra claustrophobic and creepy cave dwelling thriller The Descent. Based on that alone, I'm interested in checking this movie out. Add in Rhona and I'm even more excited. It's looking a lot like a female Mad Max which I have no problems with and Rhona looks hot in the trailer.

R.I.P. Heath Ledger: Not sure who he is?

Heath Ledger (1979-2008) (imdb: http://imdb.com/name/nm0005132/)

I'm finding a lot of people really weren't that aware of who Heath Ledger was or that what looks like his best performance ever (in The Dark Knight as the Joker) was about to be unleashed upon the world. Most of my friends (movie buffs as well) replied 'Who?'

So I wasn't gonna post anything about him- I mean, he's not a sexy female and it just felt out of character for Celebrity Skinned to start doing R.I.P. posts. However, when I realized that people just didn't know who he was and maybe it's because he was so close to my own age - I felt I needed to post something.

I've put together a small collection of YouTube videos that show some of his work, including the incredible Dark Knight trailer. So if you were scratching your heads at this name floating around all over the news or happened to just miss all of his work, here's a bit to check out.

Here's to a great talent, lost forever.

Charlie Wilson's War: Movie Review

Charlie Wilson's War PosterCharlie Wilson's War
Reviewed by Marti
CS Rating: Hoffman saves the day
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0472062/

I love Aaron Sorkin, screenwriter of Charlie Wilson's War. He's what you think of when you think 'writer', the way a writer should be. He has all the qualifications: He's lived hand to mouth in crappy jobs when he was young, he's had past drug problems, has chain smoked; and he looks like a geek.

I was an avid fan of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and it was a crime it was cancelled by NBC. At least Sorkin had had his long day in the sun with the Oscar nominated A Few Good Men and the Emmy worthy West Wing because not even Julia Roberts in a bikini or naked girls doing coke in a hot tub can save this film. Which is a real shame, I wanted to love this.

It's Golden Globes blow out didn't surprise me. The film is certainly informative and parts are entertaining, especially in Charlie's office, it's like Charlie's Angel's meets the West Wing. But does it work as a movie? Not in the traditional sense.

I walked out of the movie house and I still have no idea of who Charlie Wilson is. Only Hoffman's character (Gust Avrakotos) comes across as a real, 3 dimensional character.

Is Sorkin's writing to blame or is it the no show acting of Hanks and Roberts? I watch this movie and it’s like a war is going on between Hanks and Roberts dealing with their lines.
Charlie Wilson's WarBut it dawns on me, Sorkin's script and Mike Nichols' Direction meant all this - that unremarkable people can do remarkable things, that politics is all show business and the best things in show business are the shallow and fun loving.

The women of Charlie Wilson's War are fun and captivating, from the radiant Julia Roberts, the young and blood boiling Emily Blunt, to his sexy all girl admin staff led by the sweet Amy Adams.

Critics have pointed to the appeal of this film as 'grown up', but I think they miss the point. Grown up subject matter doesn't equate grown up film.

Juno: Movie Review

Juno Movie PosterJuno
Reviewed by Marti
CS Rating: Teenage angst has never been this good!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0467406/

Teen pregnancy has never been so entertaining! Not the obvious ingredients for a hit, but Juno is scooping up Globe nominations and blowing the critics away.

Ellen Page turns in a dazzling performance as 'Juno', pregnant 'geeky' teen. This is Daria meets My So Called Life. There are some cool observations here; Jocks secretly pine for geeky girls, Cheerleaders aren't brainless and teenagers will always confuse sex and love.

This aint just another teen movie.

Superbad's Michael Cera is perfectly cast as the uber geek love interest of Juno. Like Superbad, Juno is a teenage love story. Superbad concentrated on the man love between two friends, forcing it to play for a lot of slapstick laughs, Juno is a more traditional love story.

Pro-lifers and pro-choices will find little nourishment here. This isn't a statement on teenage pregnancy, Juno learns more about herself and the world through observation than any revelations she goes through being pregnant. That's why the movie works so well.
Jennifer Garner in JunoAnother revelation here is Jennifer Garner. Jennifer Garner looks amazing as the desperate wannabe Stepford mom, we want to dislike her so bad, like her husband Jason Bateman, but the pair of them deliver their best performances I've ever witnessed. There both a long way home from Alias/Arrested Development.

Screenwriter Diablo Cody, ex-stripper and that rare thing, a celebrity writer, delivers a tight script with over the top dialogue, good use of showing the story rather than telling. You'd think she'd been writing movie scripts for years. We know Juno realises she's falling in love with Cera when she fills his post box with the orange Tic Tacs Cera is addicted to.

A sweet little movie about a sweet little girl who like all teens, thinks she knows everything, painfully waking up to the fact she only just learning how the big bad world works.

One key criticism is the oh-so-cool chats about favourite movies and music that doesn't ring true and clunks in an otherwise cliché free teen movie.

And did I mention Jennifer Garner? No-one told me she could act this good!

Summer Glau pictured here in an unknown photoshoot returns tonight as the 'good' terminator in the Sarah Connor Chronicles.

I wasn't impressed with the 2nd hour of the premiere. It was only hour 2 and they already seemed to be repeating themselves. Is every terminator fight gonna be a contest as to which terminator can throw the other through the most walls?

Hopefully tonight is better.

Tarantino Wants Britney Spears in Faster Pussycat Remake

Britney Spears playing a killer stripper wouldn't be surprising at this point. It would probably give her a good positive boost in popularity. I know I'd see it! Especially if it was to be directed by big-budget-explotiation master Quentin Tarantino.

According to Gossip Boulevard Quentin Taratino not only wants to remake Russ Meyer's Faster Pussycat Kill Kill with Eva Mendes and Kim Kardasian but he want's Britney Spears to fill out the cast.

Quentin said: "I love the film - what’s better than a movie which has three strippers going on a killing spree in the desert? It would be great to do a remake, and casting would be easy. Top of my hit list would be Kim Kardashian and Eva Mendes. And you know what, I think Britney Spears could really work in this film. I’d love to get her involved."

Now Quentin talks A LOT of smack. We've all been waiting for his rumored WWII movie, Inglorious Bastards for years so I'm not holding my breath on this one. Only time will tell and seeing as how Britney has absolutely no creditablity left, she's got nothing to lose by doing this movie.

Here's the trailer for the original:

Cloverfield: Movie Review

cloverfield posterCloverfeld
CS Rating: Like a rollercoaster into a brick wall
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1060277/
http://1-18-08.com

This is one of those movies that everyone is going to love to hate. You might love it... it may be the best thing you've seen in a while but at least 2 of the people you saw it with hated it. They hated it because it made them nauseous, or it didn't have enough resolution for them or they just love to hate things that are different.

The audience I saw this with both booed and clapped. People that sat silently may not have really known what they just saw... it hits you like a brick in the face.

There's no 'formula' here. The movie starts with some titles, indicating that what you are about to watch was found footage, property of the US Government. Then it starts, and for about 20 mins it sets up the characters though different points of view via the camcorder. Just as I thought to myself "Ok, when are the yuppies gonna shut it and..." BOOM - the whole city shakes. From there it's not really a movie as much as it is an experience. This is the closest thing to putting on some virtual reality glasses and 'living' through a monster attack of epic proportions.
Michael Stahl-David in CloverfieldThe actors are good enough. You might feel like they aren't re-acting enough but when I imagine what I would do in that situation - I imagine that you wouldn't have time to stand around and scream. You move or get a plan going because you'll die if you don't. You don't have time to process what you're seeing. Fight or flight time, the adrenaline is kicking in and I know that if someone I loved needed help I would everything I could to get to them.

This is the story of the film - at it's simplest is a love story: save the one you love, against all odds. These young people are in love but are forcing distance between themselves because Rob Hawkins (Michael Stahl-David) is going to Japan to start a new job and Beth (Odette Yustman) is starting to date someone else in retaliation. When all hell breaks loose its Rob's mission to save Beth.

The camera is Rob's, the story is Rob's and that's it. There are no explanations for the monster. The military are there fighting it, but we're with Rob and crew and we never cut away. To me that was refreshing. How many monster movies can we watch where it's the same military, the same screaming pedestrians and the same Presidential orders to blow it up with every bit of arsenal we have available?

Now the monster is awesome. This is Rob's story but the monster gets more than enough NYC-wrecking screentime. I felt the CG was seamless with the video footage and you feel the danger when Rob and party get too close. The things the monster does are surprising and orth the price of admission for any monster movie fan.

I really enjoyed this film, er- experience and it goes by so quickly that I'm sure I missed things. Knowing JJ Abrams theres got to be some hidden fun things to find on repeat veiwings. If it had been a roller coaster I wouldve gotten right back in line to ride it again.

If you hate 'shaky cam' you're probably gonna hate this too.

So choose your side of the fence and prep your watercooler arguements! You'll need them I'm sure.

Sweeney Todd: Movie Review

Sweeney Todd
CS Rating: Don't Miss (unless you hate musicals)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0408236/
http://www.sweeneytoddmovie.com/

Filled with style, Tim Burton's ambitious take on a musical legend pays off in every scene. I got nervous when I heard that Burton was doing this film. I got even more nervous when I heard that he was keeping it a musical with Depp and cast signing the Broadway tunes. Given that Tim's movies (when he doesn't write them, i.e. Planet of the Apes) just come off as weak, style over substance pieces of goth art I expected this to suck.

Much to my surprise, the movie succeeded on all fronts - in fact it's one of the more entertaining movies I've seen this year. Johnny Depp is fantastic as Sweeney Todd and the rest of the cast fill out the scenes perfectly. Helena Bonham Carter oozes her quirky madness, Alan Rickman is pure evil as Judge Turpin and even Sacha Baron Cohen handles his part well.

The trailer for the film does it's best to disguise this film as a non-musical but this is a straight up, full on Broadway musical in film form. Rarely is a line in the movie not sung. It completely works if you like that sort of thing. A friend of mine couldn't get past 'watching dudes sing to each other' enough to enjoy the movie so be warned.

Based on Stephen Sondheim's stage classic, I felt it was very faithful adaptation but it's been a LONG time since I've seen Sweeney on stage. Theater purists will no doubt be scuffed that certain songs like "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd" got the razor.

The story goes that Benjamin Barker, betrayed by Judge Turbin returns to London to seek revenge. Teaming up with pie maker Mrs. Lovett Benjamin becomes Sweeney Todd and begins to exact his revenge for the loss of his wife on the unsuspecting city. Lovett, in dire need of pie sales, grinds up the bodies of Sweeney's victims and serves them in her meat pies.

Based on a 19th century 'legend' of sorts Sweeney was considered a serial killer and may or may not have actually existed.

From the Sweeney Todd Wikipedia Entry:
"Todd's first appearance could have been in a British penny dreadful called The People's Periodical, in issue 7, dated November 21, 1846. The story in which he appeared was titled "The String of Pearls: A Romance," and was written by Thomas Peckett Prest,[6] who created several other gruesome villains. He tended to base his horror stories partly on truth, sometimes gaining inspiration from real crime reports in The Times."

Sweeney Todd has already garnered a Best Picture nomination at the Golden Globes and will no doubt stir up some Oscar noms later this year.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Promo Images and Review

The Sarah Connor Chronicles PromoSarah Connor Chronicles PromoSarah Connor Chronicles PromoSarah Connor Chronicles Promo

Keep in mind that I haven't seen the official version of the pilot. Some things may have changed and while I plan on watching it soon - it's just not gonna happen this weekend. You, however can watch it online now, for free at http://tv.yahoo.com. My review is of the leaked pilot that made it's way to the Torrent sites months ago.

Overall, I enjoyed the pilot a lot more than I expected to. Lena Headey fills in Linda Hamilton's shoes perfectly and brings a fresh take to Sarah Connor. Summer Glau as the friendly female Terminator (Cameron) was a smart move. Anyone that's seen Serenity knows just how kick ass she is and she brings the ass-whooping well in this first episode.

Lena and Summer will make this show if the writing can sustain it.

Thomas Dekker as John Connor is OK... nothing too special but then again, this character has always been more of a prop than a real character. Edward Furlong annoyed me so much in Terminator 2 that ANYONE they casted is gonna do a better job in my eyes. It'll be interesting to see where they go with him as the series progresses.

My BIGGEST problem was with the Arnie replacement Terminator. Absolutely WEAK in every way. From the minute he appears on screen I was disappointed. He just doesn't have the presence I expected but then again, filling Arnold's shoes would have been hard for anyone.

I did like that they didn't do any major re-introductions, you know you're looking at a Terminator and there was no extra attention brought to it... like John saying something dumb to the effect of "Hey look, it's a terminator!". There's none of that. In fact from the second the pilot starts you know you're watching a Terminator related story. I felt that they nailed the tone perfectly.

There was an unexpected twist near the end that removes this show from the continuity of the films and that could be a good thing considering how most people disliked the third film. The producers of the show are ignoring Terminator 3. They consider it a different time line. I was unaware of this in my last SCC post yesterday. Time will tell if this is a wise move or not. I personally like the idea of breaking from the continuity of the films.

In the end this is a very promising show with a lot of potential - it's certainly added to my DVR list and we'll see how it develops. I think hard core fans of the movies may be disappointed but I welcome the fresh take on the Terminator series and seeing the story from a non-Arnold focused point of view is refreshing IMHO.

The Sarah Connor Chronicles premieres on FOX Jan 13th 2008.

Cate Blanchette: First Official Pic from Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull (Vanity Fair)

Cate Blanchett from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Vanity Fair's got an article about the latest Indiana Jones film and there are some exclusive and cool images from the set. This is the first official image I'm aware of that shows Cate Blanchett in character as Agent Spalko, a hot Russian Cold War agent.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull takes place in 1957 and Indy is going up against Cate and some Cold War bad-asses as he tracks down the Crystal Skulls. The movie is set for release May 2008.
